Let’s face it, the average pachyderm weighs between 3-7 tons, and may spend up to 16 hours a day eating. They should and do reach for third helpings of everything. For the sake of fun and human-pachyderm bonding, though, let’s run through a list of 5 foods elephants never forgo.
- Amarula on the branch – While pachyderms eat marula fruit in the raw, branch, bark, and all, humans get complicated and consume it by the glass. Still, we recommend you savor the Amarula and save the elephants at the same time.
- Gulab jamun – I once heard someone describe these as Dunkin’ Donuts munchkins drenched in syrup. And that person was not wrong.
- Nachos – Pachyderms prefer real cheese, though. Try Margaritas’ fresh and perky Tomato Garlic Nachos to enjoy one of the best. Bueno.
- Christmas trees – Elephants extend the holiday season, while providing recycling opportunities. Merry – munch, munch – Christmas!
- An MLT – Mutton, lettuce, and tomato… I’ll let Miracle Max explain.
Believe it or not, pachyderms do skip the peanuts. It’s a union thing. Despite persistent rumors, elephants never work for peanuts.
