Elephants Never Emit

Wesley had to hand it to them. They had really built an impressive factory. Leed-certified, ESG-driven, the building even blended into the surrounding landscape in a way that Frank Lloyd Wright would have envied. It should not have surprised him, though. After all, the paper-maker created products using 100% natural, recycled materials.

Everywhere Wesley looked, he saw the local workers smiling smugly. They grinned because they understood the value of this place. First of all, their employer adhered to fair trade principles. The company paid fair wages in line with what other countries offered. And on top of that, the facility had zero carbon footprint and posed no danger to the rich ecology of this country.

Truly, thought Wesley, the owners’ biggest coup had been hiring that massive, gray-skinned engineer to lead the factory’s development. From a high, broad window, the factory’s designer looked down. Operations ran smoothly, and the designer did not wiggle his tusks even a little. Shaking his head, Wesley wondered again how nobody had thought of it before. After all, zero pollution was all the rage these days, and everyone knew elephants never emit.
