Elephants never forget to give thanks for their families, friends, and loved ones. On Thanksgiving, neither should you.
Don’t be this guy:
Holiday Inn
The picture above comes from the classic movie Holiday Inn, starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. If you’ve never had the pleasure, I think the story, dancing, and music by Irving Berlin make it worth a viewing. The film dates from 1942, so bear in mind that some things will feel decidedly outdated. In particular, I certainly won’t object if you choose to fast forward the blackface number for Lincoln’s birthday. That said, the movie did inspire an entire hotel chain. And you will probably hear Crosby’s rendition of White Christmas about a dozen times while shopping this holiday season.
To tide you over, here’s a bit more of the Thanksgiving scene. Though, you’ll have to take my word that the clip ends before Mamie (played by Louise Beavers) can steal the show with a scolding intervention.
Thank you for spending some time here at Elephants Never, and have a great Turkey Day!
