Elephants never net tuna

“So this season, I’m breaking in a new crew member.”

Cut to Paige standing by the fishing rods in the stern, waving one big forelimb.

Return to Dave’s diary. He wipes his forehead.

“Yeah, after that swordfish incident last season, Sully bailed on the ocean, decided to stay on land.”

Cut to replay, paramedics clustering around Sully on dock, paying attention to his waist, thigh, and backside. A big fish shape protrudes behind him. Sully yells.

“I’m fockin’ done, Dave! Fock this! You get this fockin’ fish outta my fockin’ assh–”

Cut back to Dave’s diary. Dave wrinkles his face.

“Yeah, I don’t blame him. So we brought Paige on board. Tyler vouched for her. It’s been an adjustment.”

Start montage with Dave’s commentary voice-over.

“The first thing we had to figure out was spacing.”

Cut to Paige turning fast and knocking over a bucket with her tusk. Dave swears in the background.

“It’s not like she can go below decks. And keeping her stern-side seems to work best for the weight.”

Paige up by the bow, the boat pressing heavy onto the waves, spray blasting high over her gray head.

“She’s a fast learner, though. Great memory.”

Tyler shows Paige how to set up the lines, points at the fish finder. Paige’s big ears flap.

“And I gotta admit, she still surprises me how well she can multitask.”

Paige sets up a rod with both forelimbs. Her trunk sneaks over to grab the chum bucket at the same time.

“The only real complaint I have is how long it takes her to catch bait fish. Even with three rods.”

Paige sits quietly at night, three small fishing rods in the bottom hatch, one in each forelimb, one in her trunk.

Return to Dave’s diary.

“But elephants never net, they say.”

He shrugs.

“On the plus side, you should see this gal with a spear!”

Dave pantomimes jabbing a spear.

Cut to Paige rushing across the stern, spear wrapped in her trunk, screaming loudly.

“Yaaaiii!” Paige whips the spear down over the side, then hauls the impaled tuna up into the air, slams it onto the deck as the boat rocks and water sprays wildly. She trumpets loudly.

Cut to Dave looking shocked.

Fockin’ wicked, dude.
