Elephants Never Fit in Cars

“Look, I really don’t understand what the problem is. I built you a customized minivan, to your own specifications no less! And now when you’ve come to take possession, you’re changing your minds?”

“It’s really good work. We like it, we really do.”

“But we just have some concerns about whether the interior space will really work with our family’s needs.”

“Again, let me remind you that you picked the specs.”

“Yes, we appreciate that. Things have changed.”

“Well, do you appreciate that when we put together a custom order like this – rear seat sunroof, more room behind the passenger, extra trunk space – I mean, I can’t just turn around and put this on the lot.”

“I would think the quality would make it an easy sell.”

“Yeah, but the configurations are all wrong for a normal family.”

“Excuse me?”

“What do you mean by that?”

“Sorry, but we need to address the big, gray, floppy-eared kid in the room. Right? ‘Cause she’s the reason you’re jerking me around here.”

“Mister, I do not think I like your tone.”

“Our dear, adopted daughter is no less a person than anyone else. And I resent the implication that she’s a problem.”

“Oh, come on! You have ‘space issues,’ and ‘changing needs’? Everyone knows elephants never fit.”
